DATA CURATION PROCEDURES

Data acquired for the UK Data Service collection undergo rigorous and comprehensive curation prior to publishing and release. This ensures that data, documentation and metadata are processed and published to the highest standard possible, both for ease of use in secondary analysis and for archival preservation.

The curation procedures carried out depend on the individual nature of each dataset and document, but as a general guide the following tasks are always undertaken:

DATA AND DOCUMENTATION NOTES

All final publication outputs cleared from the SecureLab are sent for information purposes to the data owner.

NEW EDITION INFORMATION

For the second edition (August 2024), data files for 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 have been added, and the data file for 2019-2020 has been updated to include additional cases. The documentation has also been expanded and updated.

INFORMATION ON CONDITION OF USE

The Data Collection is available to users registered with the UK Data Service.

Commercial use is not permitted.

Use of the data requires approval from the data owner or their nominee. Registered users must apply for access via a DEA Research Project Application.

Registered users must complete the Safe Researcher Training course and gain DEA Accredited Researcher Status.

Registered users must be based in the UK when accessing data.

The Data Collection must be accessed via a secure connection method in a safe environment approved by the UK Data Service.
