Data acquired for the UK Data Service collection undergo rigorous and comprehensive curation prior to publishing and release. This ensures that data, documentation and metadata are processed and published to the highest standard possible, both for ease of use in secondary analysis and for archival preservation.
The curation procedures carried out depend on the individual nature of each dataset and document, but as a general guide the following tasks are always undertaken:The Data Collection is to be made available to Registered or Authorised Users.
Commercial Use of data is not permitted.
All requests are subject to a set of Secure Access forms being completed by the User and are subject to the approval of the data owner or his/her nominee.
Requests from users not resident in the UK are subject to agreement by the User to the following additional condition of use: "I agree that although I am based outside the UK, I am working on a project that has a UK based sponsor, I will be able to access the data within a UK based secure environment, and I will be able to provide contact details for this sponsor on any project application.
Access to data is subject to training.
Access is limited to applicants resident in the UK.
The Data Collection is to be accessed remotely through the UK Data Service's secure virtual private network via the researcher's own institutional desktop PC.
