DATA CURATION PROCEDURES

Data acquired for the UK Data Service collection undergo rigorous and comprehensive curation prior to publishing and release. This ensures that data, documentation and metadata are processed and published to the highest standard possible, both for ease of use in secondary analysis and for archival preservation.

The curation procedures carried out depend on the individual nature of each dataset and document, but as a general guide the following tasks are always undertaken:

NEW EDITION INFORMATION

For the second edition (October 2024), data for waves 9 and 10 have been added to the study and data for waves 6 to 8 have been updated. An Excel Data Dictionary has also been added.

INFORMATION ON CONDITION OF USE

The Data Collection is available to UK Data Service registered users subject to the End User Licence Agreement.

Commercial use is not permitted.

Use of the data requires approval from the data owner or their nominee. Users must apply for access via a Special Licence application.

Access is limited to users based in the UK or in countries deemed by the UK to have an adequate level of data protection as follows: European Economic Area (EEA) countries or Andorra, Argentina, Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Israel, Isle of Man, Jersey, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Switzerland and Uruguay

Users may access one or the other of SN 8433 (Census 2001 Rural-Urban Indicators: Special Licence Access) or SN 8437 (Census 2011 Rural-Urban Indicators: Special Licence Access), but not both.
