DATA CURATION PROCEDURES

Data acquired for the UK Data Service collection undergo rigorous and comprehensive curation prior to publishing and release. This ensures that data, documentation and metadata are processed and published to the highest standard possible, both for ease of use in secondary analysis and for archival preservation.

The curation procedures carried out depend on the individual nature of each dataset and document, but as a general guide the following tasks are always undertaken:

NEW EDITION INFORMATION

For the second edition (March 2020), data based upon a new methodology of capping the number of incidents at the 98th percentile have been made available. Incidence variables names have remained consistent with previously supplied data but due to the fact they are based on the new 98th percentile cap, and old data sets are not, comparability has been lost with years prior to 2012-2013. More information can be found in the user guide that accompanies the 2017-2018 CSEW study, held under SN 8464.

INFORMATION ON CONDITION OF USE

The Data Collection is available to users registered with the UK Data Service.

Commercial use of the data requires approval from the data owner or their nominee. The UK Data Service will contact you.
