DATA CURATION PROCEDURES

Data acquired for the UK Data Service collection undergo rigorous and comprehensive curation prior to publishing and release. This ensures that data, documentation and metadata are processed and published to the highest standard possible, both for ease of use in secondary analysis and for archival preservation.

The curation procedures carried out depend on the individual nature of each dataset and document, but as a general guide the following tasks are always undertaken:

INFORMATION ON CONDITION OF USE

The Data Collection is available to users registered with the UK Data Service.

Commercial use is not permitted.

Use of the data requires approval from the data owner or their nominee. Users must apply for access via a Secure Access application.

Approved users must complete specialist training.

Users must be based in the UK when accessing data.

The Data Collection must be accessed via a secure virtual private network in a safe enviroment approved by the UK Data Service.

Users must also include the main Growing Up in Scotland Cohort 1 data held under SN 5760 in the Accredited Researcher Proposal form and add it to their projects (please note there is no need to complete a separate Special Licence application).
