DATA CURATION PROCEDURES

Data acquired for the UK Data Service collection undergo rigorous and comprehensive curation prior to publishing and release. This ensures that data, documentation and metadata are processed and published to the highest standard possible, both for ease of use in secondary analysis and for archival preservation.

The curation procedures carried out depend on the individual nature of each dataset and document, but as a general guide the following tasks are always undertaken:

DATA AND DOCUMENTATION NOTES

For the second edition (August 2008), the serial number has been replaced with a new one, variable Ncdsid. This change has been made for all datasets in the NCDS series. Further information may be found in the ‘CLS Confidentiality and Data Security Review’, included in the documentation.

NEW EDITION INFORMATION

Data on secure server 23-jun-08 Susan We have converted the data to the new serial numbers for both BCS and NCDS and they are on the ftp server called: bcs_converted_datasets.zip ncds_converted_datasets.zip They will expand to be a directory per SN. Commercial use of the data requires approval from the data owner or their nominee. The UK Data Service will contact you.
