Using the Data
==============
Users are advised to create a "Marriage id" field prior to use of the 
data contained in the file "DN1837.tab".



Data Notes
==========


"BNDIRAL.tab" 
-------------
A number of blanks appear in a range of fields.  

A number of undocumented abbreviations appear in the "Trade" field. 


"DN1837.tab" 
------------
A number of blanks appear in a range of fields. 

Undocumented abbreviations appear in the "Tr1" and "Tr" fields. 

The data content of the field "Tr1" changes character for entries dating 
to, and after, 1849 in the "Dom" field. These entries now include the 
age of the person and the use of an abbreviation (Sp) for spinster. The 
data it has been split into 2 new fields "Occ" and "Age". The field 
"Tr1" has also been left in place. 


"BoltonPollBooks_1832.tab" and "BoltonPollBooks_1841.tab"
----------------------------------------------------------
The codes used in the field "politics" are undocumented. It is likely, 
however, the L, C and R refer to 'Liberal', 'Conservative' and 'Radical' 
respectively.


"OtherMfrsVotes.tab"
 -------------------
The file lacks voter entries for the record 'Bricklayers/setters' 
and a total of votes cast. 


"ShopKeeperVotes.tab"
----------------------
The record for 'draper' contains the value '1-r' in an undocumented 
field.



Documentation
=============
The documentation makes reference to the format in which the data was 
deposited. The format in which the data is diseminated is likely to be 
different.

The number of records present in the file is "BNDIRAL.tab" is 24960 
and 6908 in "DN1837.tab".

The supplied documentation makes no reference to the data contained in 
the files "*votes.tab". It is likely, however, that these files contain 
calculated 'secondary' data  pertaining to the voting patterns of 
various trades. Each general trade is represented by an individual file, 
within which the voting patterns for specific occupations are set out. 
The data entered in these files does not appear to be year specific.

The documentation states that the assistance provided Brian Farris in 
the collection of data contained in the file "BNDIRAL.tab" should be 
acknowledged in any subsequent use of the data.
