ARCHIVE DOCUMENTATION STUDY NO: 4318 STUDY TITLE: British Social Attitudes, 1999 Validation and conversion: -------------------------- Data and documentation received in SPSS portable file/ MS Word format from National Centre for Social Research (Natcen), December 2000. Conversion process: ------------------- Data file checked and processed to Archive standard. Documentation converted to PDF (portable document format) User Guide using Adobe Acrobat Exchange. Bookmarks added to PDF User Guide to aid navigation. Summary of value-added outputs: ------------------------------- See above. Constraints on the reliability and/or usability of the data: ------------------------------------------------------------ During the preparation of the User Guide, it was noted that Address Record Form A (file arf-av1.doc) would not translate well from the MS Word original - some text would not display properly. Therefore the document was scanned from the paper copy sent by the depositor. Paper copies of the Address Record Forms B and C also sent by the depositor are identical to A, so not included in the User Guide, though the Technical Report may make reference to them. No copy of the Technical Report was sent to the Data Archive by the depositor with the dataset - it is due for publication during Spring 2001 (see also note below). Some variable names in the SPSS file differ from those in the documentation; these are noted in the footnotes at the bottom of the pages in the Blaise questionnaire documentation in the User Guide. All variables on the SPSS file are identifiable from the documentation, as the question number is included in the variable label. Any outstanding problems or queries: ------------------------------------ None noted. Technical report recommended/essential: --------------------------------------- The technical report associated with this study is due for publication during Spring 2001 by Natcen. It is recommended that users purchase this report once it is available. Bibliographic details will be added to this note once the report has been published.
