SN:3890    BRITISH GENERAL ELECTION STUDY 1997 CAMPAIGN PANEL

The variables LIBAUTBA and LFTRIGBA have been updated in the por file for
this study.  A memo from Katarina Thomson of the National Centre for Social
Research (below) details an error they had found with the two variables
affected.  They supplied syntax to correct the error and the file has now
been corrected.

'The fault is that respondents who did not complete the self-completion
(where these questions were asked) have not been given a skip code, but
appear to have scale scores.

Before running this code, there are no -1 values for these variables.
After running the code, there should be the following number of -1 values:

panel97	543 cases'

The file was corrected and frequencies were run, they matched the expected
cases listed by the depositor for -1.

The updated panel97.por is now named panel97u.por
