Abstract:
This dataset contains data concerning stock prices from John Castaing's Course of Exchange, which appeared twice a week (on Tuesdays and Fridays) from 1698 throughout the following century. The data is particularly important for arguments concerning market efficiency, based on actual price movements, for the international market in credit, and for such discussions as the `crowding out' thesis (that is, the relationship between war finance and the Industrial Revolution in England).
